Working with vocal teacher and dean Anne Margrethe Dahl, she completed her advanced postgraduate diploma of music degree in the early spring of 2020. After her bachelor's degree in Opera at the Norwegian National Opera Academy, she commenced her studies in Copenhagen at The Royal Danish Opera Academy. Renate comes from the small island community of Sotra outside of Bergen on the Norwegian west coast, and she played the piano and sang in a choir for many years before she began her vocal studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music with teachers Kirsten Taranger, Randi Stene and Bo Skovhus. Her future profiled assignments include the role of Berta in Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini at The Norwegian National Opera & Ballett, and her debut at The Bergen National Opera as Papagena in Die Zauberflöte by Mozart. In In January 2022 she sang the role of Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera by Verdi, directed by Karolina Sofulak and conducted by Paolo Carigiani.
This season Renate has appeared once again on the stage of The Royal Danish Opera. Nystedt, Michael Boder, Giancarlo Andretta, Robert Houssart, Eivind Gullberg Jensen, Alexis Kossenko, Tobias Ringborg, James Gaffigan, Stephen Layton, Kirill Karabits, Grethe Pedersen, Boris Schäfer along with others. Conductors with whom Renate has collaborated include Paolo Carigiani, Gregor Bühl, Gerhard Markson, Håkon D. Renate is a sought-after concert artist, and has sung repertoire from Bach to Abrahamsen with several large Scandinavian orchestras.
In January 2021, she sang the New Year's concert with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, which also was shown on Harmonien's website. In the autumn of 2020, the premiere of The Barber of Seville was streamed live on and on Youtube. The Norwegian Opera and Ballet has broadcasted the performance of Suor Angelica by Puccini, and the Kirsten Flagstad 125th Anniversary Concert live over radio, and the latter was also broadcast on national TV NRK Hovedscenen. She was a soloist at the Royal Danish Orchestra’s Christmas concert at The Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen, where the concert was broadcast live on Radio DR1. Renate has experience with broadcasting concerts and performances on the radio, television and streaming over the internet. Her many planned role debuts at DNO&B were canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but despite strict restrictions, she has done the role of Frasquita in Carmen by Bizet, Sister Genovieffa in a concert version of Suor Angelica by Puccini, Berta in The Barber in Seville by Rossini and Musetta in La Boheme by Puccini. In the spring of 2020, Renate Ekerhovd became part of the soloist ensemble at the Norwegian Opera & Ballet as a Young Artist, and she has participated in several productions and concerts in the 20/21 season.
